One aspect that is just as vital, yet often overlooked, is mastering your own mind and managing fear and stress in a crisis situation. Understanding the Foe: Fear and Stress

Our body’s natural response to a threat or danger is fear. This fear triggers stress, a physiological response designed to keep us alert and ready to face danger. While fear and stress are natural, their unchecked escalation can be paralyzing and counterproductive in a disaster.

Controlling Stress

Building Resilience

  2. Practice Mindfulness and Gratitude: Mindfulness encourages us to stay present, focused, and calm, which is particularly important during crises. Gratitude helps shift our focus from what’s wrong to what’s right, strengthening our mental fortitude.
  3. Stay Healthy: Regular physical exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep are crucial for overall health, stress management, and fostering resilience.

Remember, survival is not only about having the right tools or skills – it is about mental fortitude, resilience, and the ability to manage fear and stress. So, prepare your mind just as rigorously as you prepare your survival kit. As the saying goes, “survival is 90% mental and 10% physical.” The more you train your mind to manage fear and stress, the better equipped you will be to handle whatever crisis comes your way.
